Is every dog training tool created equal? Not by a long shot! One old saying that comes to mind is “a place for everything, and everything in its place” – the same idea can be applied to training techniques. Although there is nothing a motivated pet owner cannot accomplish with one cheap clicker and a whole lotta patience, the right tools for the job can make life a whole lot easier.

The recommended starting point is a solid, simple, small clicker that can fit right in the pocket and held easily along with a bag of treats. The key is truly comfort – the quicker you become comfortable with the training routine, the quicker your canine will fall into pace. Choose a model with a soft click for shy dogs, or a louder variety if you train mostly outdoors.

If your dog training needs are a little more specialized there are clickers out there for your purpose. A few brands of targeting sticks include a clicker right in the handle – a great choice for trainers that will be working primarily on difficult maneuvers.

Clicker leashes are wonderful dog training tools for the pet owner that needs to drill polite walking skills. These leashes are great for teaching Fido while “on the go”, but otherwise these models are too bulky to serve the majority of purposes.

Digging Deeper

The right accessories can make a huge difference. Wrist straps, fanny packs, treat bags, and training books can really help out the struggling canine-owner team. Beginners may find clicker training starter packs to be an effective means of getting started – these usually contain the basics that almost every owner can find useful!

Whether you’re a power-training or a green first timer, be prepared by getting organized. When you are able to craft a consistent, engaging dog training routine results will come naturally!

Choosing the right technique to get your dog to stop barking is very tricky. Some dogs respond to treats and verbal training very well. This should generally be your first step in training. If you dog is finding more joy in barking than the treats you are giving them you may need to move on to another tactic. A secondary, and very effective alternate way to train your dog not to bark is to use a citronella dog collar. Every time your dog barks they get a little spray of citronella. The only time this method doesn’t work is if your dog doesn’t really mind the citronella but really loves barking.

It has been my experience that one of these two methods will normally work for anti-bark training but there are a few other controversial methods which I do not recommend. The next drastic step is a shock collar. Like the citronella collar this collar performs and action if the dog barks. However, unlike the citronella dog collar, a shock collar sends a small amount of voltage into the dog which is very irritating. It is nothing like a stun gun on a human but if the dog continues to bark it can really start to hurt them. And if it malfunctions to be on continuously you could be in for some animal cruelty charges. I challenge you to put it on your neck and bark and see how well you like it. If you are not willing to do this, I surely hope you would not put your dog through it. And the final method is debarking surgery. This removes the dogs vocal box so that when they think they are bark only tiny amount of sounds come from them, like a whisper. I would never do this to a dog but I do feel it is better than a shock collar. The dog still gets the satisfaction of thinking they are barking and you get peace and quiet. It is along the lines of clipping tails and ears for me. I wouldn’t do it but it is not technically cruel to the dog.

Try the first two techniques on your own but consult your vet before trying anything else. There is nothing I hate more than a pet owner that is lazy instead of informed.

I think we can all agree that most dogs love to chew. However, what your dog chooses to chew on is a whole different story. With the large variety of dog bones that are available it can sometimes seem a little overwhelming when it comes to choosing the best dog bone for your pup.

While rawhide dog bones remain one of the most popular types of dog bones being bought by pet owners, there is still the great debate on whether or not they good for your dog. Most people like giving their pets rawhide treats because they are cheap, they last long and they are for the most part, an all natural dog treat. If you want an excellent alternative to rawhide dog bones you may want to consider getting your pup some dog bones from the butcher.

Dog bones from the butcher are an a great treat for your pet. They are very popular amongst pet owners because just like rawhide dog bones they too are all natural, inexpensive and extremely durable. Marrow bones, like most dog bones, are also very beneficial to your dog’s dental health too.

The next time that you are at the supermarket take a walk over to the butcher and ask them if they have any marrow bones left over. Marrow bones are raw bones so they are an all natural treat for your dog. Pet owners that feed their dogs a raw diet are huge advocates of marrow stating that a marrow bone is something that a dog would get in the wild.

Unlike a lot of the other all natural pet treats on the market today, marrow dog bones from the butcher are rather inexpensive. The bones do not cost all that much because they are often discarded. You can expect to spend a few dollars on these types of bones. It’s really worth it though because these bones are extremely durable so they will last a long time.

All dog bones, including marrow bones which are bones that you can get from the butcher, are very beneficial to a dogs dental health. Chewing on bones is great way to keep teeth and gums clean. The chewing action helps scrape away plaque and tartar that can be harmful to your pet. These types of dog bones also add nutrients to a dogs diet that they may not get from other types of dog bones.

The Mini Bakes Dog Biscuits are one of their most popular dog treats.

Bully Sticks have quickly become one of the most popular types of dog treats on the market today. A lot of people wonder if Bully Sticks are good for dogs? If the bully sticks that you purchase pass these tests then they are definitely one of the healthiest pet treats that you can give your pet. Because they 100% beef, bully sticks are are a healthy all natural dog treat.
So where did the name come from? Bully sticks may also be referred to as beef sticks, beef pizzles, pizzle sticks, or steer stix. They have been given all of these names because they are actually made from 100% bull penises. Bull penis is the only ingredient needed for making bully sticks. Some companies refer to their bully sticks as “beef tendons” or “dried muscles” as a marketing tactic. Many feel that these names may be a bit more appealing to pet owners.

When you compare other types of dog bones and dog chews, there are few that will last as long as the bully stick. Teething puppies will chew on juts about anything that they can get their little mouths on. Because they will last for such a long time, the chewing action that is created when your dog chews on one these healthy dog bones promotes healthy teeth and gums. The chewing action will scrape away plaque from your dogs teeth and gums which helps keeps them clean.

Making homemade pet treats is one of the easiest ways to make sure that your pet is eating a healthy, nutritious snack. There are many benefits to making homemade dog treats in the comfort of your own kitchen. You can use the healthiest ingredients to make the homemade pet treats, it doesn’t cost a lot of money to make homemade dog treats, (especially homemade dog bones) and your dog will get a healthy alternative to many of mass produced pet treats on the market today.

I have a great recipe for homemade dog bones which I have included at the end of this post. It’s one of the easiest pet treats that you can make because it requires minimal ingredients. The nice thing about making your pet homemade dog treats is that you get to choose the ingredients for the treats. The dog bones that I make can be made in a variety of flavors using very simple ingredients. You can start by choosing the type of flour that you would like to use as the base of your dog bones. One of the most popular flours used for making homemade dog treats is oat flour. Oat flour is very healthy and it’s great for dog’s with allergies. If your dog doesn’t have allergies you may want to use whole wheat flour which will give the dog bones a sweeter flavor. Next you can decide what types of flavor you would like to give the bones. The most popular dog treat flavors are cheese, chicken and peanut butter. The dog bone recipe that I have can be made in any of these flavors. The recipes uses all natural peanut butter, real chicken and real cheese to make these pet treats, so your pooch will be getting one of the most healthy all natural pet treats!

It really won’t cost you alot of money to make these dog bones. The only thing you have to buy is flour, either peanut butter, chicken, or cheese and baking powder. You may already have some of these ingredients at home. Making homemade dog bones is very cost effective. You will be able to bake more bones for less money than you would spend on a box of dog treats at the store.

Making your pet homemade dog bones in the comfort of your own kitchen will ensure that your pooch is getting a healthy alternative to a lot of the mass produced pet treats on the market today. Unfortunately many of the commercially produced pet treats are made with preservatives, chemicals and by-products that can be harmful to your pets health. When you make your pet homemade pet treats you control what is in the snack and you can make sure to use only the finest ingredients to ensure that your pet is getting one of the most nutritious and healthy dog bones.

Homemade Dog Bones (Peanut Butter Recipe)

Ingredients:

2 cups oat flour

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 tsp baking powder

3/4 cup water

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour and baking powder in large mixing bowl. Add peanut butter and water. Mix until a dough forms. (Add more flour if dough is too sticky.) Roll dough on floured surface into 1/4″ thickness. Use a dog bones cookie cutter to cut into dog bone shape. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Let cool and serve.

Last weekend my brother brought home a new member of the family. The newest member of his family is an adorable eight week old beagle puppy. I must have forgotten how much new puppies love to chew and just how sharp their little teeth are. This little guy loves to gnaw on just about anything that he can get his mouth on. Because his teeth are so sharp, I advised my brother to get him a rawhide dog bone to chew. Rawhide dog bones are one of the best types of bones that you can give to new puppies, especially beagle puppies. Rawhide bones are great for pups because they last a long time, they keep them occupied and out of trouble, and they are great for teething.

I decided that I would bring my brothers new beagle pup a rawhide treat. I bought him one of the most popular rawhide dog bones from Dr.’s Foster & Smith. Their premium natural rawhide bones are great for all dogs but becuase they come in small sizes they’re great for puppies. These rawhide dog bones will satisfy any puppy’s chewing instincts with their delicious meaty taste of premium rawhide. This extra choice premium rawhide is made of USA hides and it’s a special long-lasting treat your puppy is sure to love. It’s important to give a puppy a bone that is durable and will last. You don’t want to give them a bone that will splinter easily or fall apart because they could potentially choke on something like this.

These dog rawhide treats are made extra thick to last longer, and they do not contain any harmful whitening chemicals that might interfere with nutrients or flavor. These flavorful, low fat, and high protein rawhide dog bones will quickly become the highlight of your puppy’s day. Keeping a puppy occupied is essential. If they are not kept busy, most puppies will surely find something to do and it might not be something that you will be happy with! Giving you rpup a rawhide bone to chew on will keep them busy for hours.

Puppies are just like babies in the sense that they have to go through the teething process. A teething puppy can get themselves into troubl eif they do not have something to help with the discomfort that goes along with teething. Supplying your puppy with a rawhide bone will help them while they are teething. the chewing action will actually help them loose their teeth and it helps massage their sore gums too. If you don’t give a teething puppy something to chew on, they can do a lot of damage.

Dr’s. Foster & Smith have a great selection of natural rawhide dog chews and dog bones. Rawhide is one of the most popular pet treats on the market and they are one of the best first dog treats that you can get for a puppy!
